Sierra Leonean promising star George Kwaku Davies has left Freetown for Ghana to join a football academy affiliated to the current English Premier League leaders Manchester City sierraleonefootball.com can reveal.
The 16-old
FC Johansen striker departed Freetown on Tuesday and he'll spend about two
weeks in the academy called the ‘Right to Dream' academy under the supervision
of Manchester City after which he’ll proceed to Manchester for further
developmental training.
Davies’
association with the English and FA Cup Champions came as a result of a trial
he underwent with the club last September in Manchester.
He was
spotted by Manchester City during the U-16 Swiss Cup in Switzerland last year
which was won by his club FC Johansen with him emerging as joint highest goal
scorer with five goals in seven games.
Currently
Davies is one of the hottest strikers in the ongoing Sierra Leone Premier
League as he has scored two goals, has provided some assists and is very skillful
on the ball. He was very instrumental in FC Johansen's promotion to the Premier
League scoring quite a good number of goals.
Head coach
of FC Johansen John Keister is confident that Davies will make it at Manchester
City.
“Davies is
very good striker who is very technical, fast on the ball and can score goals.
I brought him to FC Johansen because I knew he was a potential star,†Coach
Keister told sierraleonefootball.com.
He added:
“His kind of player will fit in to the English game and I have no doubt that
he'll succeed at Manchester City. We'll surely miss him at FC Johansen.â€
Isha Johansen owner of FC Johansen presently second in the Sierra Leone Premier League standings on goal difference behind leaders Diamond Stars of Kono has expressed similar sentiments.
