The Team Manager of local club FC Kallon Tunde Scot has told sierraleonefootball.com that their youngster Lansana Kamara popularly known as Kalusha is currently undergoing trials with the Moldovan Champions FC Sheriff.
Scot said that the 18 years old attacking midfielder left Freetown last Friday and started the trials earlier this week with the Tiraspol based club who are currently third in the Divizia Naţională, the top division league.
“Kamara is a good player and I’m confident that he will pass the trials,†Scot stated, adding that “I wish him good luck.â€
It had been reported that Kamara was spotted by scouts during a youth tournament in Accra called Liberty U-20 Classic Tournament organised by Ghanaian club Liberty Professionals in November 2010.
He’s the second Sierra Leone footballer currently undergoing trials in Europe, the other is another midfielder Samuel Barlay who is on trials with newly promoted team to the Swedish top league Syrianska FC.
FC Sheriff was founded in 1997 and have since grown rapidly as one the biggest clubs in Moldova. They have dominated Moldovan football for the last decade, winning all the championship titles in the Divizia Naţională.
The team have won the Moldavian Cup six times – in 1999, 2001, 2002, 2006, 2008, and 2009. They also won the Commonwealth of Independent States Cup in 2003 and 2009, becoming the first team from Moldova to win an international title.
They have participated in the UEFA Champions since 2001/2002 but have never reached the group stage. However, they had gone one step further in the current competition as they reached the third qualifying round to qualify for the group stage. The current competition is now in its last 16 knock-out stage.
FC Sheriff were the first club in Moldova to sign contract with players from Brazil and Africa.
